Food for the brain

Exams is round the corner. Some parents have taken leave to show their children some moral support while they prepare for exams. While doing so, it helps to prepare some nutritious meals to boost your child’s memory and focus abilities.

By now, it’s easy to discover brain-food. Just by doing a quick search on google, we can find a consistent list of food that are always mentioned as brain-boosting. We will not be repeating what have been written before. Rather, let us suggest to you some yummy and nutritious meals to prepare using these brain-boosting food. If you have not before been made aware of these common brain-boosting food, do not fret. We still have them listed for you here.

Eggs

Egg yolks have always been controversial in health articles. Some encourage less of egg yolks due to its high cholesterol. Another school of thought would argue that the cholesterol from egg yolks are actually good cholesterol. Here, we are all for egg yolks. Egg yolks contain Choline that helps to regulate mood and improve memory.

Eggs is a very versatile food that can be used for all meals. For breakfast, eggs can just be served on its own. Some children like boiled eggs while some prefer half-boiled eggs with some black sauce and pepper. Others like scrambled eggs (with a dash of black pepper and salt) that can go with toast.

For lunch, eggs may be used to prepare a sumptuous egg sandwich meal. Preparations is easy – place a slice of cheese on a wholemeal bread, and then place a hot sunny side up on the cheese and finish off with another piece of wholemeal bread on top. The combination of melted cheese and oozing yolk makes the sandwich irresistible even in the middle of intense concentration. Salad can be used for sides for some fibre intake.

For dinner, eggs may be used to cook omelettes. Omelettes can be cooked in a variety of ways depending on the child’s preference. Some children prefer omelette plain, as it is. To make it more flavorful, simply spread some tomato sauce on the omelette. You may also add other ingredients like onions, spring onions, crab meat, ham or cheese to add taste to the omelette.

Eggs may be steamed too! The simplest way to steam eggs is to use a small packet of chicken stocks, mix in with 3 beaten eggs. It is ready for steam. You may sprinkle on some chopped spring onion to add colors to your steam egg dish.

Fatty Fish

Fatty fish contain Omega-3s fatty acids that are great brain-boosting nutrients. Fatty fish can help sharpen memory and improve the mood of children. Two types of popular fish in this category would be salmon and codfish.

Salmon makes a wonderful addition to a nutritious breakfast meal. If you are an adventurous cook, you may attempt to prepare a dish of smoked salmon eggs ben! If done well, smoked salmon is great for breakfast because it is easy to down.

For lunch, you may try steaming codfish in light soy sauce. Codfish is very oily in nature, therefore it is not suitable for frying. Steaming would be the perfect way to prepare codfish. Nothing additional because codfish in itself is strong in its flavor. Remember to add in a few pieces of ginger to reduce the strong fishy smell. Steamed codfish with light soy sauce may be added into plain porridge to make a light meal for lunch.

For dinner, baked salmon makes a great treat. If you can get your hands on some sage (which in itself is a great brain-boosting food and yummy seasoning), you may marinate your salmon with sage, basil, some salt and black pepper. Place the salmon in the oven together with some bell peppers and potatoes. That makes a delightful dinner dish that is not at all time consuming!

Broccoli

Broccoli is a great source of Vitamin K – an oil soluble vitamin that improves cognitive functions. It is not an easy food to down, even for some adults. It is also not an easy food to cook! If overcooked, broccoli changes its color to become more yellowish and tastes bitter. It becomes no longer attractive aesthetically and to the taste bud too. Overcooked broccoli can also be less effective in supplying us with the required nutrients. However, if not cooked enough, broccoli brings a very raw taste that puts off the taste bud as well.

Our recommended way to prepare broccoli would be to cook it with chicken feet broth. Chicken feet has always been known to be a great source of collagen (a must-eat for beauty and cartilage health). However, few of us know that the Glycine found in the collagen in chicken feet can improve sleep and memory for our children! First, simmer chicken feet (add ginger to remove the chicken smell) in a pot of water for about 2 hours to make the broth. At the same time, cut the broccoli into small pieces (huge bouquets of broccoli stalks only make them look harder to down). 5 mins before serving, throw in the broccoli and add in some salt for taste. Broccoli soup in chicken feet broth can be served during lunch together with macaroni for a light meal. Alternative, use the chicken feet stock to cook porridge, and then stir in finely chopped broccoli into the porridge 5 mins before turning off the heat. It is often advised to cook broccoli with meat because the Vitamin K in the broccoli is oil-soluble.

For a dinner dish, try preparing stir-fried beef or pork with broccoli. Again, chop the broccoli to smaller pieces to make them look easier to manage. Also, throw in the broccoli at the last minute so they are not overcooked and retain their fresh green color.

Walnuts

Walnuts are shaped like our brains. The beauty of mother nature is that it gives us the hint of what is good for different parts of our body by creating food that look pretty much like that particular body part. One of such food is wolfberry – that looks like our eyes, and is indeed a great food to improve our vision. Another would be black beans – shaped like our kidney and is itself a kidney tonic.

We can get walnuts and eat them on its own as a snack, or thrown into stir fried spinach (mentioned by some sources to improve mental performance). Another way to get nutrients out of walnuts would be to simmer them in soup. Simply boil some pork ribs (or beef bones) in a pot of water, add in some celery (not widely acclaimed to be a brain-boosting food but mentioned by some), pumpkins (because orange and green makes the soup very attractive and they have complementary taste) and lastly some walnuts. Simmer the soup on low fire for about 2 hours. Serve it with white or brown rice.

Brain-boosting snacks

Blueberries can help improve connectivity among brain cells. They may be eaten on its own as a healthy snack. For those who do not fancy blueberries on its own, try making blueberries muffins for a yummy treat for tea-break! They may also be added into salads as a side dish.

Dark chocolate not only helps mental performance but improves your child’s mood as well! It makes a great break, and helps your child manage his stress and anxiety.

Exercise and Good Sleep

Lastly, exercise and good sleep help the brain retain information more effectively. Encourage your child to get out for some sunshine in the morning, and participate in some outdoor activities. If your child in young, encourage him to go to the playground daily. Do not keep him at home to study just because it is the exams period. Do not stop him from sleeping if he needs to sleep more. With these, we wish you all the best in your child’s exams.

In today’s competitive world, there might be fields where your child lacks some skills and for this, you might need a private tuition teacher.
Time is taken for preparing the lessons- Ask the teacher the time that your child will take in understanding the lesson whether it’s less or more.

Way of evaluating the needs of the students- Find how the teacher is going to access the weakness or strengths of your child.

Teaching experience of the teacher- Find how much experience the tutor has.

Teaching private tuition in Singapore is a lucrative career. For the past few years, there has been a growing demand for private tutors in Singapore, driven by COVID-19’s disruption of face-to-face schooling and the rise of home-based learning.

Many parents discover the many benefits of home tuition, including having learning objectives tailored to their child’s learning needs and direct access to a home tutor who can clarify their children’s questions, ensuring their academic performance stays on track.

Although the private tuition industry in Singapore is flourishing, it’s also a competitive market. And for a good reason: successful home tutors know how to tap into each student’s potential and accelerate their learning to achieve good academic performance. Parents are willing to pay top dollar for home tutors with a proven track record.

What is the secret to being a successful home tutor in Singapore? Building a good relationship with your student is key. Not all students are enthusiastic about entering your lesson for the first time. Some of them might feel resentful, restless, or even fearful. This is because you are a stranger to them and do not have any relationship with them (yet).

Here are three important factors a home tutor should take note of to build positive relationships with their students.

Trust

To help students learn, a home tutor will need to construct a space and secure climate conducive to students’ learning. It is essential to foster a trusting relationship with the students. Students need to know that you care about them as individuals and are committed to helping them succeed academically.

Students should be able to ask questions, clarify misconceptions, make mistakes or express any concerns or doubts about their learning with their home tutors. Remember that mistakes and questions are opportunities for learning. If you are overly critical of your student’s mistakes during the private tuition sessions, they may become defensive and unwilling to expose their lack of knowledge.

When giving students feedback, avoid using an accusatory tone of blame by not using the word “you”. Instead, use “I” focused sentences. For example, say something like: “I am concerned that you were not paying attention when I was teaching. Now we need to go through the steps again.” This will help you share your feelings and action steps with the student.

Positive Mindset

As a home tutor in Singapore, giving private tuition is about building human connections. Think about your time in school—did you best listen and learn from teachers with whom you had a connection and positive relationships?

To achieve this, home tutors must put themselves in a positive frame of mind and remind themselves that all students are coachable and can improve if given the proper guidance and support. Believe that you are the engine to initiate positive change in a child’s educational path.

Recognise the effort put in by the student and celebrate improvements as small wins instead of focusing only on the result. View mistakes as helpful errors in learning instead of a reflection of the student’s incompetence or personality, for example, acknowledging that it was “a careless mistake” instead of “a careless student”. Be less judgmental and more encouraging.

Home tutors with positive mindsets are less likely to develop conflicts with their students, preserving the good relationship between them.

Credibility

Credibility measures how much students believe they can learn from you and that you can be counted on to help achieve their academic goals through your private tuition sessions. Students need to have confidence and faith in your ability to teach them effectively.

Establish credibility by knowing the subject matter well and articulating the lesson materials clearly to your students. It’s important to be fully prepared before tutoring sessions, such as understanding the material and being familiar with the explanation of concepts.

Excellent home tutors in Singapore deliver teaching instructions that are coherent, flowing logically and organised – explaining the basic concept before moving on to more complex ones. They are also good at pacing their lessons, so students can digest the material presented and have time to ask questions.

Students in secondary schools or junior colleges in Singapore can discern whether a home tutor is well-prepared or simply wasting their time. They are also able to spot inaccuracies in teaching materials. Remember, excellent tutors respect every minute of the student’s time.

Being credible shows your students that you are an expert in your subject and can teach well. This is crucial for building a successful tutor-student relationship.

Conclusion

To succeed as a private tutor in Singapore, you need more than just academic qualifications. Home tutors in Singapore who can charge a premium rate with a booked-out schedule spend time cultivating good teacher-student relationships. They understand this is the key to motivating students to learn and perform better.

Check out our guide on how to ensure you select the most suitable one for your child.

If your child is taking their O Level examinations, you may consider hiring a home tuition agency in Singapore to help them prepare. When it comes to education, there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Every child learns differently, and as a result, each family must find the educational approach that best suits their needs. For some families, that means enrolling their children in a traditional brick-and-mortar school.

For others, it means hiring a private tutor. And for many families, the best option is to work with a home tuition agency. But with so many agencies to choose from, how can you be sure you’re picking the right one? Below are a few factors to put into consideration to ensure you get the best home tuition in Singapore.

Examination Subject Scope

It’s important to make sure that the home tuition agency you’re considering specializes in the subjects your child will be taking their examinations in. Not all agencies offer tutoring in all subjects, so it’s important to find one that covers the ones you’re looking for. This is because, while all students are unique, each subject has its own peculiarities that require a different approach.

A good way to determine whether an agency is a great fit for your child is to ask for a free trial lesson. This will give you an opportunity to see how the agency works and how your child responds to their teaching methods. If you’re not satisfied with the results of the trial lesson, it’s best to look elsewhere. There are plenty of reputable agencies out there that will be very willing to help your child succeed.

Tutor Qualifications

As any student knows, O Levels are a crucial part of the educational process. Not only do they provide a solid foundation for further studies, but they also help to determine which colleges and universities you can apply to.

As a result, it’s essential to make sure you’re getting the best possible tutoring for your child’s O Levels. When choosing a tutor for your child, be sure to ask about their experience teaching students who are taking their O Levels. It’s also important to make sure they’re familiar with the examination format and content.

An effortless way to do this is by asking for references or speaking to other parents who have used the agency before. You want to be sure that your child is getting the best possible home tuition in Singapore; hence it’s important to hire a qualified and experienced home tuition agency.

Read reviews of different agencies

Parents entrust their children to home tuition agencies with the hope of providing them with a better education. But with so many agencies to choose from, how can you ensure you’re making the right choice?

One way to research agencies is to read online reviews. Make sure to read a variety of reviews, from different sources if possible, to get a well-rounded view of an agency. Beware of fake reviews, which can sometimes be posted by the agency itself in an attempt to boost its reputation.

Also take into account the reviewer’s biases; for example, a displeased ex-employee is likely to have a more negative view than a satisfied parent. But if you take the time to read reviews carefully, they can give you valuable insights into an agency’s strengths and weaknesses.

Pricing

Parents want all the best for their children and will go the extra mile ensuring that their children are getting the best education possible. Engaging a home tuition agency can be very beneficial in ensuring that children are receiving quality one-on-one instruction.

When looking for a home tuition agency in Singapore, parents should ensure that they get a detailed list of all fees upfront. Some agencies may charge an enrollment fee, while others may charge a per-lesson fee.

Some agencies may also charge a materials fee, so it is important to ask about all potential fees before making a decision. By getting a complete list of all fees, parents can be sure that they are choosing the right home tuition agency for their child’s needs and that there are no surprises down the road.

Budget

While it is tempting to go for the cheapest option, this may not always be the best choice. Instead, look for an agency that offers a good value for money.

Compare prices and services to find an agency that comfortably fits within your budget and also provides the level of tuition you are looking for. With a little bit of research, you can find an affordable home tuition agency in Singapore that will help your child succeed.

Understand your child’s needs

As a parent, you definitely want what’s best for your child. So when it comes to their education, you want to make sure they’re getting the best possible tuition. But how can you ensure that the home tuition agency you’re hiring is right for your child’s needs?

First, it’s important to understand what your child’s specific needs are. Are they struggling with a particular subject? Do they need extra help to catch up with their classmates? Once you know what your child needs, you can start looking for an agency that specializes in that area.

It’s also important to consider your child’s learning style. Some children learn best through interactive activities, while others prefer a more traditional approach. Make sure to ask the agency about their teaching methods and whether they’re a good fit for your child.

Given the importance of education, it is no surprise that parents are increasingly turning to home tuition agencies to give their children a leg up.

If your child is taking their O Level examinations in Singapore, hiring a home tuition agency can give them the extra support they need to succeed. After all, additional support can make a very huge difference when it comes to exams.

However, with so many agencies available, it can be difficult to know where to start. By considering all these factors, you can be confident that you’re choosing the right home tuition agency for your child.

Below are a few key points to consider ensuring you get the right one for your child.

Getting a home tuition teacher in Singapore can be a great way to supplement your child’s education, or to provide them with extra help if they are struggling in school. Hiring a tuition teacher is a big decision.

After all, this person will be coming into your home to work one-on-one with your child. You want to be sure that you find someone who is qualified, experienced, and, most importantly, someone who your child will get along with.

But how do you know if a home tuition teacher is suitable for your family? There are several important key points you should keep in consideration when it comes to a home tuition teacher for your child.

Qualifications

The first thing you should consider when choosing a maths tutor in Singapore is their qualifications. Selecting a teacher with the necessary qualifications to teach math is important. You can check the teacher’s qualifications by asking to see their credentials or by doing a quick online search.

Experience

The experience level of a tutor is a key factor when it comes to choosing a maths tutor in Singapore. It is important to select a teacher who has plenty of experience teaching math, as this will ensure they are able to effectively help your child learn and understand the material. You can ask the teacher about their experience or check online reviews from other parents.

Personality Match

It is normal for all parents to want their children to succeed in school. But sometimes, even the most dedicated student can struggle to keep up with the material. When this happens, it can be helpful to find a tutor who can provide some extra help.

However, it’s important to choose a tutor who will mesh well with your child’s personality. Otherwise, the tutoring sessions may be more of a struggle than a help. If your child is shy, find a tutor who is patient and supportive.

If your child is easily distracted, look for a tutor who uses creative methods to keep your child engaged. By taking your time to find the right match, you can help ensure that your child gets the most out of their tutoring sessions.

Some children do better with instructors who are firm but fair, while others prefer a more laid-back approach. Make sure you have a conversation with your child about their preferences before meeting with any potential tutors. This way, you can be sure to find someone whose personality is compatible with your child’s.

Recommendations

It’s a great idea to ask for recommendations from friends or family members who have used home tuition services in the past. They can give you first-hand insights into what it’s like to work with different tutors and can help you narrow down your options to find the perfect fit for your family.

Location

The location of the lessons is also very important. There may be many qualified home tutors to choose from who live close by. You will want to choose a teacher who is located near your home so that it is convenient for you and your child. This gives you the opportunity to meet with different teachers and find one who is the best match for your child’s personality and learning style. This will also allow you to save time and money on transportation costs.

Schedule

The tutor’s schedule is Another crucial factor to consider when choosing a home math tuition teacher in Singapore. You will want to choose a teacher whose schedule is flexible and can accommodate your child’s schedule. This is especially important if your child has after-school activities or sports practices.

The Cost of Lessons

Of course, you will also need to consider the cost of lessons when it comes to choosing a home tutor for your child. The price will vary depending on factors such as the tutor’s qualifications, their experience, the location of the lessons, and whether you want to have a group or private lessons. Group lessons are typically less expensive than private lessons, but they may not be as effective for your child if they need more individual attention.

Number of Students in the Class

One major thing you should consider before getting a home maths tuition teacher is the number of students who will be part of the class. The number of students in the class affects home math tuition in several ways.

First, when there are fewer students, the math tutor can give more individualized attention to each student. This can be helpful for students who are struggling with the material or who have questions about the homework. If the class size is too large, however, it can be overwhelming for your child, and they may not be able to learn as effectively.

Second, when there are fewer students in the class, it is easier for the math tutor to keep track of everyone’s progress and identify any areas where the students may need extra help. Finally, smaller class sizes generally create a more intimate and supportive learning environment, which can be beneficial for all students.

There are many things to consider when getting a home tuition teacher in Singapore. Keeping these factors in mind ensures that you find a tutor who is best suited to meet your child’s needs and provide them with an adequate education. Taking the time to find the right home tuition teacher is well worth the effort.

With these factors in mind, you can be sure that you’ll find a tutor who is perfect for your child’s needs. And that will make an unexplainable difference when it comes time for them to sit down and learn. If you take the time to consider these factors, you will be sure to find the right teacher for your child. With the right teachers, your child will be able to improve their grades and succeed in school!

If you are an aspiring home tutor, you may be wondering where the best place is to begin your journey. Although home tutoring is in great demand in Singapore, it can be difficult to find a good opportunity to start making a name for yourself as a home tutor. This is one of the jobs where word-of-mouth plays an important role. If you are part of a renowned home tuition agency in Singapore, you can get plenty of fulfilling, high-paying opportunities for home tutoring that might not be open to new, independent home tutors. This is a great way to get started on your home tutoring career!

What Does a Good Singapore Tuition Agency Offer?

Before you start taking on students, however, it is important to ensure that you sign on with a reputable Singapore tuition agency. There are several benefits to joining a well-known home tuition agency in Singapore.

For one, an established tuition agency will already have a loyal student base, so you will not have to worry about running out of students to be assigned to. If a large home tuition agency is in need of home tutors, this usually means the agency is doing well on popularity and its tutors are fully booked. If you manage to join such a Singapore tuition agency, you can be sure to get plenty of good opportunities in home tutoring!

Secondly, established home tuition agencies typically have a general curriculum guide to follow. This can be especially helpful if you are just starting out on tutoring and are unsure about the best way to structure your lessons. Experienced tuition agencies may be able to offer guidance and support for new home tutors signing on, which can be an additional help if you experience any difficulties with home tutoring.

Furthermore, renowned home tuition agencies may offer more career advancement opportunities and employment benefits than an independent career in home tuition would. It is a good idea to start working in an established agency to get accustomed to your new home tutoring career, and once you feel that you are situated well enough, it is always possible to make the switch to self-employment or perhaps even starting your own tuition agency.

What to Look Out For in a Home Tuition Agency

Have you received job offers at various tuition agencies but unsure of which one to choose? Or are you still looking around for a home tuition agency to apply to? Whichever the case, you will definitely want to do extensive research on each home tuition agency you are considering, just as you would research any other prospective employer.

Some questions you may want to consider when finding out about your prospective home tuition agency are:

1. What is the expected workload?

Depending on whether you are signing on as a full-timer or a part-timer, each home tuition agency likely has a different workload for its tutors. Some home tutors may be expected to fulfill a minimum number of hours in a work week, while others may simply be assigned a fixed number of classes per week. If you prefer to have a more flexible schedule, you may want to look for tuition agencies that allow for flexible rescheduling between the tutor and student.

2. What are the salary schemes like?

It is not uncommon for home tutors to be paid according to their experience levels. Home tutors who have had years of teaching are more likely to command a higher rate, especially those with MOE teaching backgrounds. At the same time, it is also important to be aware of the market rate for home tuition teachers of varying experience levels, so that you will know whether you are being undercut by a tuition agency. Additionally, some tuition agencies may offer more attractive salary packages than others, such as yearly bonuses or sign-on bonuses.

3. Does this home tuition agency have a good reputation?

While there are many renowned home tuition agencies out there, there are unfortunately also those with poor reputations for various reasons. The popularity of a home tuition agency in Singapore is an important factor. Most students would opt for a well-known home tuition agency that has consistently delivered good results, so if you are hoping for many tutoring assignments, you may want to skip the more shady agencies or those who have garnered substantial amounts of negative reviews.

Ideally, a good home tuition agency should treat its tutors well and provide them with ample opportunities to develop their skills in teaching. Home tutoring is just like any other job, and finding a respectable home tuition agency to work for can go to great lengths in kick-starting your home tutor career. With the right working environment, you can start becoming well-known as a home tutor, paving the way for future opportunities!

What does the term “A-maths lessons” bring to mind? Do you see a drab classroom full of revision papers, repeated drills, and complicated formulae, or do you envision an exciting, interactive session to look forward to every week?

Not every student has a natural aptitude for A-maths. In fact, to be eligible for A-maths, you need to have a good grasp on Elementary Maths first. A-maths is a subject that many students aim to take as their passport to JC and STEM-related university courses, but for those who are not so confident in Maths, taking both Maths subjects at the same time – A-maths and E-maths – can seem like a daunting task.

The general consensus is that Maths typically requires long hours of practice, especially so for A-maths, which explores a greater depth of topics than E-maths. Students may find no meaning in A-maths concepts as they seem less applicable to real life, making them wonder what the point of studying A-maths is. Additionally, many classroom settings for A-maths lessons tend to be far from optimised. Teachers are often faced with the added task of striking a balance between fast learners and those who may lag behind. On one hand, some students learn at an exceptionally fast pace, mastering all the new topics as soon as they are taught. Without enough mental stimulation to keep them occupied, these students may feel bored and disinterested in the class. On the other hand, students who are slower in their work may feel inadequate when they are left behind trying to understand a particular concept. This can also decrease their interest in Maths and leave them thinking that Maths is not for them. These problems inadvertently occur because it is difficult to cater to every skill level in a large school classroom.

This is where home tuition in Singapore comes in. A-maths tutors in Singapore typically work with a smaller class size, sometimes even one-on-one. This gives each student more time with the tutor, allowing the tutor to tailor the lesson structure specifically for the student. For instance, a tutor may decide to go faster on a topic that the student has already mastered, and spend more time going through a topic that the student is struggling with. If the student is exceptionally good at Maths and requires more challenging content, the tutor can also prepare enrichment material to keep the student engaged and interested in Maths. What else can an A-maths tutor in Singapore do to make Maths lessons more fun and exciting?

Introduce Peer-Teaching

Sometimes, the best way to learn something is to break it down and explain it! This works best in medium class sizes of six to eight students. Home tutors can guide stronger students to teach the weaker students, enabling them to gain a better understanding of the topic. In addition to bridging the gap between fast and slow learners, it also keeps everyone involved in class and allows the tutor to give more personal focus to different students at a time instead of having to engage the whole class.

Play Maths Games

Who says that A-maths lessons have to be about doing practice questions all the time? Bringing that Maths game out can help to break the monotony and increase students’ engagement levels in the class. Maths games can be anything from card games and board games to party games and even console games for smaller class sizes! Gamifying a difficult Maths lesson can be a great way to help students internalise a tough concept while ensuring that they look forward to class every week.

Spend a Lesson in Real Life

When you are sitting in a classroom learning about differentiation and integration, polynomials, or number bases, it can be difficult to unite the mathematical concepts in class with their uses in everyday life. Some students may wonder why they are learning topics that they would probably not use later on. A lesson about how a particular Maths topic can be applied to the real world can help to provide some context, enable students to see the uses of what they are learning, and enrich their learning experience to make it more meaningful.

An alternative way of doing this, especially if your class is one-to-one, is to include a student’s areas of interest when going through topics. For example, instead of asking a student to prove plane geometry on a generic textbook diagram, try bringing in a printout of a scene from their favourite platformer game and show them how plane geometry is used in the game. As an added plus point, you will really get to know your students beyond the classroom!

We believe that the best way to help students to do well in Maths is to nurture their interest in the subject. What other ways can you think of that make A-maths home tuition in Singapore fun and exciting?

Singapore’s education system has received widespread attention and praise for being among the best in the world. However, it frequently causes children to fall behind their peers.

Private tuition in Singapore is an excellent way to supplement a child’s education while also providing more individualized support than would be provided in school. Private tuition can help a child thrive academically and socially, but finding the best home tuition agency in Singapore for your family is essential. Many parents have discovered that investing in private tuition is beneficial because it has enabled their children to excel academically and in other areas.

Singapore’s high-pressure education system frequently causes children to fall behind.

Singapore’s educational system is highly competitive and can be extremely stressful, particularly for young children. With so much pressure to succeed academically, it’s no surprise that many young students believe they must go above and beyond their peers in order to succeed.

Students in Singapore are taught from an early age that competition is healthy and should never be avoided. This means that even at a young age, children are constantly comparing their academic performance to that of their peers. By the time they reach secondary school, most students realize that if they want to advance in life, they must outperform everyone else. Not only does this cause high levels of stress in children who feel pressured by society as well as family members who may place unreasonable expectations on them, but it also causes many children’s grades to suffer, if not drop completely, because they become overwhelmed by all the pressure on them.

A private tuition teacher can help a child fill knowledge gaps and provide more personalized support.

A private tuition teacher can help children with their weaker subjects, as well as understands how to teach your child in a way that will help them understand and remember the subject better.

Private tuition teachers can provide one-on-one attention that school teachers typically do not have time for, as well as more individualized support tailored to each student’s specific needs.

It is critical to select a private tuition teacher with care. When looking for a private tuition teacher, it is critical to select one from a reputable home tuition agency in Singapore. The private tuition teacher recommended by the tuition agency should have prior teaching and tutoring experience.

You should also think about whether the private tuition teacher matches your child’s personality and learning style. Furthermore, you should ensure that your chosen private tuition teacher is both affordable and dependable.

Private tuition teachers can help a child succeed in school.

Private tuition teachers can help children with their homework, exam preparation, and revision. They can help a child improve their essay writing skills by teaching them how to format, structure, and style an essay. They can also provide extra practice in various scientific fields such as biology, chemistry, and physics.

The benefits of private tuition go beyond the classroom.

Parents frequently wonder what the benefits of private tuition are and whether the cost is justified. Private tuition teachers can help children with their homework, exam preparation, and social and emotional skills. These results can be seen in their academic performance as well as their personal development.

In addition to classroom work, they can provide one-on-one instruction on a child’s specific areas of weakness, so that they are better prepared for tests and quizzes when they return to school. This is especially useful for students who have difficulty with reading comprehension or language arts classes such as English composition or literary analysis. They also teach study techniques so that students understand how to approach different types of exams, such as multiple-choice questions versus essays and other types of assessments used in schools today.

Private tuition in Singapore can be affordable for many families

Private tuition in Singapore can be reasonably priced. In general, the tutoring rates in Singapore are $20 to $70 per hour for the primary level, $25 to $90 per hour for the secondary level, and $40 to $130 per hour for JC or IB levels.

Tuition fees can be paid in instalments. This means that rather than being paid all at once, your child’s tuition will be spread out over several months (which would mean more upfront costs).

Payment for private tuition can be made in cash or in kind. If you don’t have enough money to pay for private tuition, consider trading services with another parent whose child attends the same school as yours or simply offer some baked goods in exchange.

Choosing the right private tuition teacher in Singapore will benefit your child academically, socially, and emotionally

Choosing the best private tuition teacher for your child will benefit them academically, socially, and emotionally. A good match between a student and a private tuition teacher is critical because it can contribute to the development of a positive relationship that can help motivate the student. Furthermore, private tuition teachers who set high expectations and specific goals for their students will be able to meet them. This could lead to improved academic performance as well as overall confidence. Setting high standards for your child can help them feel more confident in themselves.

Private tuition can be a great way to help your child get ahead in school while also being a good investment for your family. You can reduce stress for both you and your child by choosing the right tuition agency in Singapore, assisting them in reaching their full potential and reaping numerous social benefits.

As a home tuition teacher in Singapore, you can develop close relationships with your students. This can be difficult if they refuse to open up or engage with you. As the school year progresses and your relationship grows stronger, it is vital that both parties continue to nurture their bond so that it remains strong throughout their academic pursuits. Here are some ideas for engaging your students right away:

#1: Know Your Subject Well

It is important that you are well-versed in your subject. You should be able to respond to questions about the subject and explain it in a variety of ways. You should also be able to teach the subject in a way that students find interesting and easy to understand.

#2: Be Organised for the Class

Being organized is the first step in engaging your students.

Spend a few minutes before class preparing. Check that you have everything you need and that it is in the right place. Examine your lesson plan to ensure that it flows smoothly from one activity to the next, taking into account any changes that may be required based on what happens in the classroom. The last thing you want is for your student(s) to lose interest because they are bored or frustrated by something unexpected that occurs during the session.

#3: Get to Know Your Students and Their Families

Get to know your student and their families.

You want all of your students to feel at ease in front of you as they learn new things, so it’s important that they trust you with their personal information. You can accomplish this by asking them questions about their interests. Ask them what their favourite subject is and what areas of study are most interesting to them, or ask about their hobbies if the school curriculum makes no mention of hobbies or project-based learning activities. Consider a student’s lack of interest in anything as an area for improvement.

Find out what makes each student unique.

Asking general questions such as “What do you enjoy doing the most?” or “What is your favourite subject?” is great for establishing a great rapport with your students, but it won’t allow students to open up completely just yet because these types of questions don’t allow enough space for reflection and self-expression. Instead, try asking specific questions like “What did you find most surprising about yourself?” or “What do you already know about yourself that your classmates do not know?” This will help you build rapport with the student while also giving him/her the opportunity to share additional details about himself/herself and his/her family relationships.

#4: Establish Classroom Rules

Establish classroom rules. Classroom rules should be fair and apply to everyone. They must also be clear, simple, and consistently enforced. It is preferable to have one rule per page of paper so that students can easily refer back to them when needed.

Communicate clear classroom rules to your students’ parents before they begin home tuition lessons with you, preferably during orientation sessions held at their school or during open house events organized by your school during registration periods. You can also inform them about classroom policies through printed materials such as an information sheet or a handout sheet distributed right before classes begin. This can also be used as an introduction letter.

#5: Be Fair To Each Student

The first thing you should do as a home tuition teacher in Singapore is to be fair to each student. Each student is unique and should be treated accordingly. You must provide students with the opportunity to succeed. Never compare them to others because each child develops at his or her own pace and has a unique learning style. Never be too strict or too lenient with your students, as this can undermine their confidence and drive them away from learning.

#6: Be Positive and Encourage Success

Make an effort to maintain a positive attitude in the classroom. Students with a positive outlook on life are more likely to succeed and gain confidence. Encourage your students to look on the bright side of things, no matter how difficult it may appear at first. With enough encouragement and positivity, you can help them develop a positive mindset that will help them succeed in school and in life.

Encourage ambition and success. It is not only about being happy, but also about being ambitious enough to pursue your dreams. Encourage your students with wise words like “Never give up” or “You can do better next time.” These encouraging words will motivate them during difficult times in their studies, when they may feel like giving up or failing anyway due to exams coming up soon after the holidays, or even before.

#7: Make Lessons Fun

When you’re providing home tuition in Singapore, make the lessons enjoyable. It is important to find ways to keep your students engaged and motivated. Using a variety of different teaching methods is one of the best ways to accomplish this. Here are some suggestions:

Pose questions to them and encourage them to respond.

Have them brainstorm on a topic

Have them complete tasks or activities rather than just reading from a book or listening to a lecture (this will help establish their role as an active participant rather than just an observer)

Providing home tuition in Singapore is different from teaching in school. You might be used to watching the students’ reactions and giving corrections on an ongoing basis, but if you are teaching at home, you need to be more organised.

You will also have fewer resources, especially if you are a tutor who has just graduated and started working independently. It can be hard for some students who come from homes where they were used to having a lot of resources such as books at their disposal.

In addition, students may not tell their parents about difficulties they face in school or may not be aware of what they need help with when they start out with home tuition sessions at your place. You have to make sure that every lesson plan meets each student’s needs completely before moving on from one topic to another.

Finally, there are many different ways to engage students from day one. As a home tuition teacher, you want to start off on the right foot with your new students. If you can do that early on, it will help build trust and confidence in each other which will lead to a better learning experience for everyone involved.

Love it or hate it, but physics tuition is one of the most popular types of tuition in Singapore. While physics as a subject is introduced early on during the secondary school years, it gets more complicated the further you advance. Whether your child is in secondary school, an IB programme, Junior College, or even polytechnic, you may want to consider physics tuition in Singapore for the sake of boosting your child’s performance to ensure that they grasp the concepts and are able to apply it.

This is especially relevant for those students demonstrating a desire to study disciplines that rely heavily on physics in university, such as theoretical or applied physics and engineering majors. A good grasp of physics and how they play out in real life will give students a solid foundation if they choose to pursue these fields.

Making sense of counterintuitive concepts

There are a surprising number of physics concepts that are not common sense, and can in fact be counterintuitive – for instance, if a larger object rams into a smaller object, which object experiences the greater force?

You would think it would be the smaller object facing the greater force from the bigger item, but no – Newton’s Third Law states that both forces are equal in size! This is one of the earliest examples of physics whiplash that don’t seem to make any sense, and oftentimes schoolteachers do not necessarily cover the reasons why. Often, students are simply expected to memorise formulas and concepts and then apply them to the questions they are supposed to answer. Questions that tackle multiple concepts in one go in relation to each other are infrequent and can often throw students for a loop, and this is when a tuition agency in Singapore could help your child. By patiently sitting with them and explaining the underlying reasons as to why many of these work the way they do, counterintuitive concepts can be strengthened through physics tuition in Singapore.

Reaffirming concepts and different perspectives

Physics is a common subject across schools, but oftentimes there are schools with larger student-to-teacher ratios as well as rigid methods of teaching that may not work with individuals due to varying learning strategies. Additionally, teachers need to move on frequently to ensure that all the syllabus is being covered on time, and thus may not spend enough time on concepts that certain students struggle with. To counter this lack of individualised attention, which may often result in poor grades or performance in practical, it may become relevant to either send your child to a tuition agency in Singapore or engage a home tuition teacher.

Small group tuitions with different approaches to learning, or even individualised tuition lessons, may help your child address these areas that they may be struggling with. Tuition teachers can spend as long as they need and adopt as many different approaches and strategies as they need as well, in order to tackle the tasks for your child to ensure that they understand the concepts well. They can also relate the principles to real-life problems and demonstrate either in person or through things like YouTube videos to ensure that they get the idea properly. Individualised attention is invaluable for students to do well if they are not already doing great in class.

Physics exam strategies

As we’ve noted in other articles, the strategies required for learning and absorbing content is vastly different from the strategies needed to take exams. As your kids move to more complicated concepts, questions that tackle multiple principles in one go may become more common and throw students for a loop as they are often more used to isolated settings in their questions.

Being able to read through questions, understand what they are asking about, think and solve problems on the spot without hesitation is a very important skill for those who are concerned about their grades. Tuition teachers often have access to additional resources and problem sets – either from other schools or their own drafted versions – that are able to tackle these strategies in depth and ensure that the students cover all sorts of questions

In summary

Physics tuition may help those who require additional or individualised attention. While regular tuition is best for the tutors and students to get to know each other better, there are often instances in which short-term tutors are engaged just to go over certain concepts either before exams or to beef up situations in which students are not grasping them when they are being covered in class.

Either way, tuition can help students make sense of counterintuitive concepts and principles, look at physics concepts and principles from different perspectives so that they have different ways of making sense of things, and provide additional resources to help with exam strategies. For those who choose to work with tuition agencies in Singapore, the benefits are often plentiful and worth it!
